The Society of Professional Journalists has gone on record with their support of student journalists. During their annual Excellence in Journalism conference, members voted to pass Resolution 9 calling out numerous schools for their stifling prior review policies as well as retaliatory actions taken against student media reporters and faculty advisors.
Resolution 9 goes on to state, “…the Society urges its members to support and actively encourage the passage of similar state legislative protections for the independence of student media across the country.”
The Resolution was sponsored by Frank LoMonte, the executive director of the Student Press Law Center, and SPJ member Michele Day.
